Garageband Guitar Presets

Posted on  by

Aside from sounds, you’ll find garageband presets to get your EQs, compressors and effects chains in check, pre-made to enhance individual channels, groups and master channel. Whether you’re making drum & bass, techno, house, electro, trap, edm or downtempo music, we have the garage band samples you need to get a cutting edge sound. Select the desired entry, and a list of presets will appear within the category. Select any of the presets and play the guitar. Adjust the preset’s amp and the effects settings on the smart controls button and the preset’s smart controls. After selecting your desired choices, click the record button on Garageband and record. When you download GarageBand from the Mac App Store, you’ll immediately get 50 sounds, 500 loops, 1 drummer, and 2 basic lessons for guitar and piano. Likely, though, you want the full package. Once in GarageBand, you can access your AU plugins by creating a software instrument track, then clicking on the 'Edit' tab in the right-hand Track Info column (see left image).

El Sabado
This is an guitar amplifier preset that uses the standard 'British Gain' model. As you might guess from the name, it's sort of loosely inspired by Tony Iommi's tone. It sounds much heavier than the stock 'Classic Rock' preset, but less grindy and buzzy than the 'Metal' preset (though, I think, fatter and more crushing. Good stuff.

Presets

You can hear 'El Sabado' rocking away on some of my home demos like 'On the Hill', 'The Colour Out of Space', 'Over the Wine-Dark Sea, and 'Bad Man'. I think it sounds all right for an amp sim!

Presets of this type are stored as .pst files. You can download a zipped copy of my 'El Sabado.pst' file. Copy the unzipped .pst to the appropriate place in your GarageBand install, which should be [PATH-TO-'Instrument Library']/Instrument Library/Plug-In Settings/Amp Simulation/El Sabado.pst

In case that's too technical, click the somewhat scrunched screenshot on the right. The image shows the settings I used for 'El Sabado', so you can just mimic them by eye!

You can open the Sound Library from the Sound browser, the Live Loops browser, and from instruments that have additional sounds available for download. To open the Sound Library, your device must be connected to the Internet.
